Young Goodman Brown Questions

1. I think Hawthorne's purpose for writing this story was to show us that we should expect the unexpected. Honestly Hawthorne had many purposes for writing this story he made many good points in this story. Throughout the entire story he was very clever and just made the story more interesting maybe he did that to keep us reading or maybe not.
2. Young Goodman Brown's wife who is named Faith is actually a great name for her. The name Faith fits her because in the story she remained having hope no matter what the situation was. I think there were some point in which Brown had faith in her and didn't.
3. I think the ribbons signify the goodness. I think that the pink ribbons is what kept their relationship stable and good.
4. I think that Young Goodman Brown witnessed everything but in a dream. In the story his mom comes back to life, also his dad they were all together at one point which is bizarre because like I said his parents came back to life. Although the story doesn't say that it was an awful nightmare I bkeieve it was.
5. The old man is the "devil", I believe this because in the story he came out of the forest when Young Goodman Brown was there. Also there were many signs showing that something evil/ bad was going to happen. You start noticing that ever since the old man showed up into Brown's life weird things just started happening.
6. I feel like the staff was part of the old man or like his accomplice. The staff was also a sign or symbol.
7. If Young Goodman Brown wouldn't have ventured the forest I think everything would be the way it was. He would still have Faith and his wife, maybe his townspeople. At the same time I feel like he still would've have gone to the forest because he wanted to reach his "destination". So maybe things would be different, maybe not.
